2023 Camp Staff

At Camp Shoresh, we are one big happy family!
Hiring the right staff is the key component to ensuring a wonderful camp experience for our campers.

We are looking for staff members who LOVE kids and are excited and passionate about spending their summer with our campers, enabling them to develop self-confidence and independence, forge life-long friendships, and create amazing memories.

Available positions include counselors, challenge course members, specialty staff, kitchen staff, and grounds crew.

Being an effective staff member requires a tremendous amount of energy, spirit, caring, sensitivity, and patience.

Rabbi Dave Finkelstein

Executive Director
Rabbi Dave Finkelstein is returning for his 38th summer as Executive Director of Shoresh. This will actually be his 42nd summer at camp, as he was a counselor for four years prior. If you are a well-behaved camper, you get a treat from Rabbi Dave's office or a special ride on his Gator. Rabbi Dave served as a Judaics teacher at Beth Tfiloh Community School in Baltimore for 18 years. Rabbi Dave serves on various committees at the Associated Jewish Federation of Baltimore. He has won several awards in Jewish Education. Rabbi Dave's favorite part of his job is giving Fidler Teen Torah Center classes in Virginia.

Rabbi Asher Stein

Dean of Jewish Life
Rabbi Asher Stein will be back for his 43rd year. Rabbi Stein oversees various aspects of the Judaics program at camp, including division- and camp-wide Jewish learning sessions. During the year, Rabbi Stein is a Judaics teacher at Beth Tfiloh Community school in Baltimore. His ruach (energy) is infectious, as he is everyone's favorite at camp.

Rabbi Tzvi Tuchman

Assistant Director
Rabbi Tzvi Tuchman will be returning for his 20th summer, 16th as the Assistant Director. “Rabbi T” was a counselor for four years before he moved to Columbus, OH for 13 years where he was the Program Director of the Columbus Community Kollel. In camp, Rabbi T can be found leading small group tutoring and serving the Jewish educational needs of our campers, otherwise he will inevitably be fixing something broken. During the off-season, Rabbi T directs Shoresh’s Adult Education program, where he personally teaches many classes each month to Frederick, MoCo, Baltimore, and Virginia participants.

Yakov Majeski

Assistant to the Head Staff
Rabbi Yakov Majeski will be returning for his 17th summer at Shoresh. You never know what crazy Yiddish song "Majik" will have the whole camp singing this summer. He brings awesome and creative spirit to camp. Walk into the lunch room and you will see Majik leading the dancing, singing, and zaniness. Rabbi Majeski is the Middle School General Studies Principal at Talmudical Academy during the year.

Abby Persky

Director of Operations
Abby Persky is excited for her second year at Shoresh! A native of Des Moines, Iowa, she worked with small businesses for over a decade before moving to the non-profit world. Abby oversees the logistics at camp and for Shoresh's year-round programming. As a lifelong Jewish camper herself, she embraces the mission of teaching kids and their families about our heritage in a fun and meaningful way. Outside of work, she and her husband love hiking and baking with their two daughters.

Rachel Shar

Program Director
Rachel Shar has been a part of the Shoresh family for six years. Rachel brings her unique creativity, her love for programming, and her love for inspiring children to create one-of-a-kind programming at Shoresh. When she’s not creating and running camp-wide programs at Shoresh (like the Amazing Race, Shabbaton activities, and electives), Rachel is the First Grade General Studies teacher at Ohr Chadash Academy in Baltimore.

Liav Lewitt

Assistant Program Director

MollyBeth Rushfield

Director of Junior Shoresh
MollyBeth Rushfield invigorates our youngest division with her energy, enthusiasm, and crazy outfits and nails. This will be MollyBeth’s 18th summer as Junior Shoresh’s Director. She is a teacher for the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School during the year. After years of teaching elementary secular studies, she now teaches Judaics at JDS. She loves every minute in her role as “Rebbe Rushfield.” She was Montgomery County’s Favorite Teacher of the Year in 2011.

Ronit Miller

Assistant Director of Junior Shoresh
Ronit Miller started as a camper at Camp Shoresh 13 years ago, spent 9 years as a counselor, and through her hard work and dedication to keeping MollyBeth on task, has achieved the rank of Assistant Director of Junior Shoresh! She is a master at organization and ruach, and spends the school year teaching 4th grade general studies at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School right down the hall from MollyBeth so they can continue to scheme and plan all year long!

Moshe Tuchman

Field Director
Moshe Tuchman is thrilled to be coming back for his 6th summer at Camp Shoresh. He looks forward to his new role as Field Director. He is well-suited for this position as he has previously worked as a CIT Boys' counselor, the Lower Boys' Division Head, the Upper Boys' Division Head, and as the Challenge Course Director. He is a man of many talents! During the year he is a 2nd grade teacher at Baltimore's Ohr Chadash Academy.

Avrumi Reches

Lower Boys' Division Head
Avrumi Reches is so excited to be returning to Shoresh for his third "absolutely unbelievable" summer. With his high energy and infectious enthusiasm, Avrumi is ready to super-charge the Lower Boys division. Co-creator of the popular camp sport Gimmel Ball and voted #1 bus microphone entertainer by Gunther Bus Weekly Magazine, Avrumi adds so much to camp. When it's not summer, Avrumi can be found teaching at Talmudical Academy in Baltimore and spending time with his wife, Aleeza, and three adorable kiddies.

Alon Dek

Director of CITs
Alon Dek will be returning for his 23rd summer. Alon has a great relationship with the CIT boys and is a mentor to them not just in the summer, but all year long. One minute you will see Alon playing a heavy duty game of basketball and the next, he will be answering the CIT boys' toughest questions regarding Judaism. Besides being a great CIT head, he makes the best Rice Krispie treats this side of the Mason-Dixon line. Alon has been a special education teacher at Sulam in Rockville for the past 17 years.

Chana Leah Ravin

Upper Girls' Division Head
Chana Leah Ravin returns to Shoresh for her 10th summer! She was a camper for many years starting out in Junior Shoresh, and returned as a staff member later on. After studying Judaics in Israel for a year and a half, she is now in college in New York. She is a massive fan of the Ravens, not only because of her last name!

Max Cantor

Upper Boys' Division Head
Max Cantor grew up in Frederick and has been involved with Shoresh since he was 10, so this will be his 16th summer in camp! He graduated from Towson University, is in his second year learning in a yeshiva in New York, and is also pursuing a Masters Degree in social work. Outside of camp, he loves to learn, play sports and write "Skits with Max and Liav." Fun fact - he used to be the mascot for the Frederick Keys baseball team. He can't wait for an absolutely insane summer!

Devorah Krainess

Lower Girls' Division Head
Devorah Krainess can't wait to return to Camp Shoresh as the Lower Girls' Division Head for her second year, after a year of leading the CIT Girls. She eagerly guides the rising 2nd-5th grade girls and counselors to a fantastic summer. Her enthusiasm and warmth make her ideal for this role! During the school year, Devorah is a faculty member in the Shearim program at Sulam in Rockville.

Tamar Livingstone

Mental Health Professional
Tamar Livingstone will be back for her third summer as our MESH (Mental, Emotional & Social Health) Pro. Tamar works with children, teenagers and adults, encouraging them to live their best lives and be their greatest selves. She will be working with staff and campers to support the diverse emotional needs of the Camp Shoresh family. She loves getting to know people, cooking and reading.
